Description
Extremely rare set of uniform buttons issued by the United States Telegraph Company. These were discovered at a button show back in the 1990's and the identity was confirmed to me by the renowned telegraph expert Roger Reinke."The United States Telegraph Company entered the field by consolidating smaller, independent firms in the early 1860s, and operated in the territory of both the American Telegraph Company and W. U. Tel. Co
(stupid Ebay won't let me use the actual company name due to all the fraud connected with their payment methods)
.
By 1866 W. U. Tel Co absorbed its last two competitors and reached its position of market dominance."
Both backmarked D Evans & Co. Attleboro, Mass. This backmark was in use from the 1850's to 1880.
Postage is in the USA. They will be shipped insured in sturdy cardboard.
